Evangelism and Salvation, Part Two

Yesterday I posted the first four of eight things that I think we need to keep in mind as we think about the issue of salvation and the practicalities of evangelism. Don't forget to make sure you have a Bible near you, to look up the passages I mention.

5) Romans 1:16 tells us that the gospel is to "the Jew first". We have taught on the theological justification "to the Jew first". Jewish people are not better or more valuable than any other people group in God's eyes, but they are more strategic in God's overall plan for world redemption. Interestingly, much of the resistance to the present applicability of this verse comes from pastors and church leaders.

6) God is a methodical God. God had a strategy for building His ancient Tabernacle. One would think that He would also have a strategy for building His Tabernacle today, the Church, and He does (Romans 1:16).

7) Based on Romans 11:11 salvation has come to the Gentiles to "provoke Israel to jealousy". We have here the assignment of the Church. Certainly the Church has other assignments, but as their primary assignment collectively they are to provoke Jews to jealousy so that they might get saved.

8) Finally, Jewish evangelism can be likened to tithing. "To the Jew first" can be seen as the first ten percent of our tithe to God; the first fruits of our giving. When we give to God off the top (not what's left over) we find that He often stretches the remaining ninety percent of our evangelistic efforts. This too is not a legalism or law, but only a principle (a guide).

Are these ideas new to you or are you familiar with them? How do you partner with the Church to bring salvation to your Jewish brethren? Drop me a line to let me know what you think.
